      As the title says, I’ve tried to use the columns property, because I want to organize the fields side by side, but I can only achieve this inside a group.

      It could work.. but then the meta fields I intend to save in a group get all saved together and I don’t want this.

      Any way to achieve this besides using groups that I’m not seeing?

      You can use a group field and have all the values save seperately.

      In this example, if you leave off ,'field' => 'address_group', all the fields will be saved as separate meta:
