This past weekend Kevin and I attended WordCampUS. Living on opposite coasts, we only get to meet in person a few times a year and it’s always great to see each other. We sat in on a few talks but the best part by far, was meeting Piklist users. It always amazes us how many people are using Piklist, and what they are using it for.
On the last day of WordCampUS Matt presented the “State of the Word”, so we thought we should present to you, the “State of the List”!
Piklist v1.0
Version 1.0 is in our sights and we’re moving quickly towards it. The 0.9.9.x branch is the first step to getting there and you have been doing a great job testing it. Your bug reports and feature requests have made Piklist the best enterprise level framework available for WordPress, and we thank you.

Kevin and Jason writing unit tests at WordCamp US.
The last step in this process is unit tests. Piklist is probably one of the most complex plugins available for WordPress, and we just wouldn’t be comfortable releasing v1.0 until we are done with them. Jason Adams has been pitching in and helping Kevin write tests, and also took on the responsibility of writing some of the more complex ones.
The team didn’t slow down on unit tests while at WCUS. We met up with Jason and even more tests were written. To date we have over 350 tests and about 150 to go. The more complex tests are done, and we’re confident the remaining 150 will be go much faster.
We are holding back the next release of Piklist until the unit tests are complete.
Improved Documentation
Have you played with the Piklist Shortcode UI or the most advanced relate fields available for WordPress? They’re in the built-in demos, but we haven’t documented them yet. In fact, the 0.9.9x branch brings so many new features that we haven’t had time to announce them all. Piklist is way more than a simple field builder, and 0.9.9.x emphasizes that even more. As we move towards v1.0, we are also updating our documentation as well.
A brand new “learn” site is being created which will feature updated documentation on all the amazing features of Piklist.
Homework Assignment
Matt closed the State of the Word with a homework assignment, so we figured we should do the same:
Use Piklist, everyday. ;)
If Piklist is up to 0.9.9.7, why is 0.9.4.29 still listed as the current version on WordPress.org? While I appreciate everything it does, it also has its fair share of bugs and performance issues, many of which I’m sure have been fixed in the newer versions.
