This past weekend we had the pleasure of speaking at WordCampNYC. to present “Providing Inline Help for a Great User Experience”. We took a different approach to this topic and had a lot of fun with it.
When we think of inline help, we don’t just think of Help text, field descriptions, admin notices and pointers…all of which, Piklist makes super easy for you to implement. Forcing fields to be required and adding validation rules also provide the type of help a user needs to enter information correctly.
During our past presentations at WordCampNYC in 2012 and 2014, we focused on using Piklist to build really advanced websites with lots of Custom Post Types, Taxonomies, Settings and Custom Fields. This year we decided to do something different…use Piklist to make the “Add New Post” screen better for users.
The session was recorded and once it’s made public we will let you know where you can watch it. Until then you can download the presentation plugin and the slides. Activate the plugin, and then add a new post. You should see some subtle, but important changes. This plugin shows off one of the most amazing Piklist features…the ability to change core WordPress fields. We call it “Extend”. Enjoy.
